On Friday, October 06, 2000, at 2251 hours (10:51 p.m.), eighteen companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two Battalion Command Teams, one EMS supervisor, and three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Assistant Chief Emile W. Mack, responded to a Major Emergency Structure Fire, at 8731 N. Darby Avenue, in the Northridge area. First units on the scene reported a one-story, metal clad, 50’x120’ commercial structure, with the rear portion of the building well involved with fire. Firefighters using handlines and heavy stream appliances aggressively attacked the fire and confined it to “Lawrence Unlimited”, a picture framing business, extinguishing the fire in one hour and forty-six minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $750,000 ($250,000 Structure and $500,000+ contents).
