These fires occurred in Reading over the past week:
----101000: At 0030 hours box 45, 11th & Elm streets was transmitted for a building fire at 314 N. 10th street. Companies arrived at 0032 to find heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor of an occupied 2&1/2 story M.O.R. apartment building, with a report of children trapped inside. Companies stretched lines and began searching the building.With fire extending to the attic area, a 2nd alarm was struck at 0046 hours.Companies brought the fire under control with 2-1&3/4-inch lines at 0058 hours. Searches proved negative and all occupants were accounted for. No injuries were reported in the fire which caused $10,000 damage and was caused by an electric space heater. Four people were left homeless. Companies assigned: E1,13,9,Sn1,L3,R1,Medic1, E3-safety company and C-5. 2nd alarm: E5,11,L1,C-1,3, & 7.
----101100: At 1452 hours a still alarm was dispatched for an alarm system activation at the Reading Body Works manufacturing plant at 201 Hancock blvd. Companies arrived at 1456 and were advised of a fire in 1 of the buildings of the plant. Upon further investigation, smoke was showing from a 3 story high 250x250 industrial building and a first alarm requested. At 1458 hours box 2187 was transmitted for the plant. Companies,assisted by the plant fire brigade, used numerous house lines and extensive truck work to extinguish a fire involving a piece of machinery that had extended to the roof of the building. The fire was placed under control at 1528 hours. No injuries were reported in the fire which caused $5,000 damage and was caused by sparks from a welders torch. Companies assigned: Still alarm: E2,L1,C-6. Box alarm: E5,3,1,Sn1,R1,Medic1, & C-3.
