LAFD Single Family Dwelling FIre
SFD: SINGLE FAMILY DWELLINGOn Sunday, October 22, 2000, at 1215 hours (12:15 p.m.), fifteen companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two Battalion Command Teams, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, and one LAFD Helicopter, under the direction of Assistant Chief Jeffery S. Mottram, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 3792 North Berry Drive, in the Toluca Lake area. First units on the scene reported a three story single family dwelling, on a hillside, with fire showing from the street level and the first sub-level. Accessing the potential for fire spread into the nearby brush, a helicopter was immediately requested for down wind observation. Aggressively attacking the fire with handlines, firefighters confined the fire to the structure and extinguished the fire in thirty-five minutes. Several people were home at the time of the fire, but all escaped without injury. The American Red Cross assisted five occupants who were displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as “accidental (candles)”. Fire damage is estimated at $300,000 ($250,000 structure and $50,000 contents).
