Halloween night has always been a busy night since MTV started sponsoring a huge block party near the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. This year, firefighters from nearby Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Durham Fire Department stood by in Chapel Hill stations to supplement Chapel Hill's staffing. At approximately 2100 hours Chapel Hill Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire with flames visible. First due Chapel Hill Engine 34 found 3 units of a two story apartment complex to be fully involved. Immediate aid was requested from the Carrboro, Hillsborough and Durham firefighters that were stationed in the Chapel Hill stations. 12 units ended up being heavily damaged. 2 occupants escaped with moderate burns. One occupant was found dead during overhaul. The fire is currently being investigated.
