At 5:42 a.m. 11/15/2000 the Bastrop City Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire three miles north of town. First unit on scene, Chief Two, reports north end and peak of the roof showing fire on a double-wide mobile home. The next word are the one's we all dread to hear! MAN STILL INSIDE! First engine company on scene went in for S&R with a 1 3/4 protection line. They found the man, 95 years of age, already dead. They reported to command of the find and where able to stop the fire spead and contain it to the north end of the house and attic area.

Fire went to four alarms for water supply. Bastrop City responed two chiefs, and engine, rescue, and a tanker. Also on scene was F.C.I. Inmate Crew, Circle "D" V.F.D., and L.B.A. V.F.D.

Preliminary reports show the fire was caused by a faulty power strip with five appliences plugged into it.
