Des Moines firefighters responded to a call reporting a house fire last
night just after 9:00.
First arriving firefighters reported smoke showing from the main level doors
and windows
of a residence at 1907 37th Street.

The Incident Commander immediately called a 2nd Alarm to provide additional
and personnel for fighting the fire.

Firefighters laid water supply lines and made entry into the burning
structure. Smoke had
filled the main level of the residence. They found the fire and quickly
extinguished it.

Firefighters thoroughly searched the home for victims. All the occupants
had escaped without

Fire Investigators were called to the scene. Senior Fire Investigator Brad
Foused stated,
"The fire appears to have started in the main level, northwest bedroom."
"The bedroom
sustained heavy fire damage, and smoke, heat, and water damaged the
remainder of the home,"
he said.

Fousek estimated the damages at $35,000.

The American Red Cross assisted in relocating the four occupants.

The fire remains under investigation.
