Des Moines firefighters finished their operations at the large brush and
debris fire at 3:30 AM today.

Engineer Mark Pavelka was treated for debris in his eyes at Iowa Methodist
Medical Center last night and released.

Firefighter Greg Clark suffered neck and back injuries from a fallen tree
limb. Clark remains in stable condition at
Mercy Hospital this morning.

Fire Investigator Dave Knutzen released no additional information this AM.
"This fire remains under investigation,"
he said.

Des Moines firefighter responded to a fire at the Pallet Brokers business at
2:30 AM. This alarm was called in
by a passing Des Moines Police Officer. The Pallet Brokers business
manufactures and stores wood pallets.

First arriving officers reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the
Pallet Brokers building. Additional
equipment was dispatched immediately.

Firefighters continued to fight this fire throughout the night.

Fire Investigators were called to the scene.

Fire Investigator Dave Knutzen stated, "This fire appears to have started in
the pallet storage area near the center
of the building." "With no ignition source in this area, this fire appears
suspicious," he said.

Knutzen estimated the damages at $300,000.

Firefighters completed their operations and picked up equipment at 9:45 AM
today.

No injuries have been reported.
