This is District Fire Chief Fredrick A. Prather reporting that the
Cincinnati Fire Division will be making a special effort to place smoke
detectors donated by the American Red Cross in the homes of citizens living
in Northside on Wednesday May 2, 2001. The reason for this effort is to
provide the citizenry of Northside the life saving detectors, and to present
the vital message that smoke detectors save lives and smoke detectors are
required in all structures in Cincinnati.

Recently Northside had three tragic deaths due to fires. Due to the
tragedies the Cincinnati Fire Division desires to reach out to the community
of Northside and provide it with a solution that may help prevent such
tragic events.

So on May 2, 2001, starting at 1:00 p.m. members of the Division will be
going door-to-door hanging smoke detector door hangars on the doors of homes
in Northside. Then at 7:00 p.m. firefighters from Engine and Ladder 20,
which are located in Northside will be placing smoke detectors in the homes
of residents living in Northside. The smoke detector distribution shall
begin at Lingo and Fergus Streets.

This effort will undoubtedly make a difference, and it is the Cincinnati
Fire Division desire to make a difference. To aid the Division, the news
media is invited to take part in this lifesaving effort.
