In the rural section of Pasco County Florida on 9/5/01 at approximately 1610 hours a severe thunderstorm brought torential rain and dangerous lightening to the area. Around 1630 the Land O'Lakes VFD station was struck by lightening, knocking out radios. A phone call to the Chief from Pasco County alerted him to a possible working structure fire off Collier Parkway on Marley Loop. LOL Engine 2 with 3 personnel arrived on the scene behind Chief 1 to find a SFD with fire through the roof. All occupants had been removed. LOL Engine 1, LOL Tanker and Pasco County Rescue 23 also responded. Chief 1 requested assistance of Pasco County Engine 22 and Engine 15 and a district Chief. Engine 1 crew advanced a 1 3/4" line and made an aggressive attack from the interior, hooking ceiling and getting under the fire. As other help arrive, the fire had been knocked down and overhaul began. Quick action by arriving units saved most of the family's articles and damage was contained predominantly to the roof and corner of side 1 and side 2 of the house.
