Just after 8:30 P.M. Engine 6 and Rescue 13 responded to an electrical short in a house in the 2500 block of Ethel Ave. Upon arrival, fire was discovered in the attic of the 1 story occupied dwelling, cutting short the New Year's Eve party at the address. The fire was quickly extinguished and overhauled. Just before clearing the scene, another house fire was dispatched just 3 blocks away in the 2300 block of Homan Ave. Engine 6 and Rescue 13 quickly cleared the scene to respond on the assignment. Both units arrive within 2 minutes to find a 1 story vacant duplex, with the rear heavily involved in fire. Engine 6 began intial attack as Rescue 13 assumed command, and operated as the RIC Team. Chief 3 arrived a minute later and took Command. Engine 7 laid a supply line to Engine 6. Quint 2 arrived and provided vertical ventilation to the boarded up structure. Engine 8 arrived and assisted units with checking for extension. The suspicious blaze heavily damaged the home, and was under control in 15 minutes. Quint 1 later responded for additional air bottles.
