    Default Sterling Cab/Chassis ??

O.K. - I was just turned on to this over the weekend while on vacation (Saw one under a garbage truck body) so I have started to do some research and I figured what better place to look than here.

Does anyone have any information or experience with a Sterling Chassis/Cab used for fire apparatus (other than what's on the web site) ?

One thing specific I'm looking for is, how does it compare to the Navistar (International) and the Freightliner FL series chassis (especially in price) ?

Any information that you folks could send my way would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Stephen,in it's former life Sterling is a Ford.Because of Freightliner buying out Ford heavy duty they became Sterlings.Easy way to compare for you would be to put a Louisville cab on the Sterling. This is an over simplification but I think you see where this is headed. In oil service these are working well, there isn't a FD version running around here yet so I don't have a love/hate report yet.Hope this helps.T.C.

    Thanks Rescue 101.

Makes more sense now. After I read your post I rememberd hearing that Ford sold off the Heavy Truck Line.

I'm still looking for more information - esp. price. Would also love to hear about any Depts with a Sterling Chassis in service.
