I am a civilian from Sydney Australia. A friend told me all about the tragedy in Houston. I watched the memorial service and was deeply touched.

Words seem so inadequate but that's all I have. So I will express my condolences to all who have been touched by this sad occasion. And offer heartfelt thanks so firefighters and other emergency services personnel everywhere.

    Love,

To the family, friends, and brothers of Louis and Kimberly my heartfelt sorrow, I am truly sorry for your loss. I am not a firefighter, I am a Police Officer and EMT-P, having served in Public Safety for close to 15 years, your loss is not just contained to the fire service Cops, and EMT's understand sadly better than anyone the loss of friends and coworkers in the line of duty. In police work we see ourselves as the thin blue line that keeps the public safe from crime and criminals. But cops see firefighters as a thin red line that keep people safe and save lives from a flaming beast. On the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. where I have friends and acadamey classmates names enscribed, there is a quote enscribed on the memorial beneath a statute of a lion that guards the entrance. The quote is from Tacitus and although it is from the Police Memorial I think it applies here as well " In Valor There is Hope".

GOD BLESS THESE TWO BRAVE SOULS

To all of my firefighter brothers
stay safe from a working cop.

To Kimberly and Louis loved ones you are in my prayers.

    Fallen Angels

    Another day, another call,
    Firemen hurried one and all.
They geared up and moved out, no time to spare,
As the sirens pierced through the December air.
It was duty, a calling, their passion, their way,
To save the public from their darkest days.
Out of habit they worked without fear, without fret,
Now these heroes are ones we will never forget.
I wonder if they reflected on the hope their lives gave,
On this day when it was only God who could save.

To the soul mates I hug you and join in your tears,
On this day when reality has overcome your fears.
But know he'll be with you in spirit, in love,
He'll be watching and guiding from high above.

To the children, though this grief may now seem too great,
Know that your daddy had a hero's fate.
And know he'll still be there in every possible way,
Let his memory bring you joy, each and every day.

To the parents be proud that this man was your son,
Look back at his life, cherish what he's done.
Think about all of the lives he has touched,
Take comfort in the fact that he loves you so much.

To the siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, friends,
To aunts, uncles and cousins that he loved to the end.
Know that his life was not taken in vain,
Let pride in all he's done take the place of your pain.

To his "brothers and sisters" who shared in that calling,
Don't feel guilt or regret as your tears are falling.
But feel honor and appreciation for all that you do,
Stand strong, stand together, let that strength help you through.

To God with whom these men have now gone,
Know that recollections of these lives on Earth will live on.
Please bring peace to hearts that are suffering today,
As they wonder how to go on, please show them the way.

And to the six fallen angels whose lives have been lost,
Know that we recognize your work and its cost.
Thank you for all who you've helped and you've saved,
For the time and the love, and the life that you gave.

Brother when you weep for me,
Remember that it was meant to be.

Lay me down and when you leave
Remember I'll be at your sleeve.

In every dark and choking hall
I'll be there as you slowly crawl.

On every roof in driving snow
I'll hold your coat and you will know.

In cellars hot with searing heat,
At windows where a gate you meet,

In closets where young children hide,
You know I'll be there at your side.

The house from which I now respond
    Is overstaffed with heroes gone.

Men who answered one last bell
Did the job and did it well.

    As firemen we understand
That death's a card dealt in our hand.

A card we hope we never play
But one we hold there anyway.

That card is something we ignore
As we crawl across a weakened floor.

For we know that we're the only prayer
For anyone that might be there.

So remember as you wipe your tears
The joy I knew throughout the years

As I did the job I loved to do.
I pray that thought will see you through.

This poem was sent to me by a friend after out department lost 2 members from the same family through non-LODD incidents. We have read this many times over to try and bring comfort to our losses. I hope that it will do the same for the families of Lewis & Kim as well as all of you - the extended family. The thoughts and prayers of FVFD are with you all.

I do not know whom the author of this poem is. If any of you know then please e-mail me so I may give them proper credit.
