Walter Vaughn was a fire police officer for the Warminster Fire Department in Bucks County, PA. He was also a life member for the Enterprise Fire Company in Hatboro, Montgomery County, PA.
On October 29, 1999, the Warminster Fire Department was dispatched on Box 92-36 to 1575 West Street Road, the Meadowood Condos in Warminster Township. Walter Vaughn was directing traffic around the fire apparatus on Street Road. A driver of a van did not see him and struck Walter. Walter was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital's trauma center in Montgomery County by Warminster's Ambulance Corps. He was placed in intensive care. He spent his 80th birthday (October 31) in the intensive care unit. Walter Vaughn succumbed to his injuries on November 13, 1999. A line-of-duty funeral was held on November 17, 1999.
Walter Vaughn is the first LODD in the history of the Warminster Fire Department, second in Warminster Township.
