The Richmond, Virginia Department of Fire and Emergency Services, is sadden to learn of the passing of Fire Lieutenant L. C. Merrell, of the Chicago Fire Department, in the line of duty.
Words can never expressed to hurt that we feel when we loose a fellow brother or sister in the line of duty. One would guess that the alarm bells was false, and we have lost another brave member of our family to a false alarm call.
May God bless Lt. Merrell's family, his fire company and the members of the Chicago Fire Department. May his death not be forgotten and that he will rest in peace.

As another brother falls and flags go to half staff, we all hang our heads and pray that it soon will stop. The senseless loss of life of our brothers and sisters is a tragedy. Our prayers are with the memebers of the Chicago Fire Department. We also greive with and pray with the family of our fallen brother. May god watch over them as they struggle to deal with their loss.
