We recognize firefighting is a dangerous job. However, we also know that we have to prepare for the unknown. Sometimes even if all the precautions are taken, we have no idea what is store for us. As a firefighter, I am always sad to express my thoughts to each and everyone from the families to each firefighter effected from a tragedy such as this. Please be safe out there and be careful in everything you do!

To all of the Brothers of the FDNY, I am deeply saddend to hear of your loss. This hits close to home for me, as I am a former NY Firefighter (near Montour Falls) and State Fire Instructor myself. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the families of our lost brothers and friends.
To the families, as a former NY firefighter I know that the support you will receive from the NY firefighting family will will be tremendous. It will not stop the pain but it will surely help in the healing.
Again, our deepest thoughts and prayers from your brothers in the South, Local 4103 IAFF Cary Fire/Rescue

It is the saddest duty any of us can hold to express to our brothers the deepest of sympathies and sincere condolances for the death of another of our brothers, yet that is what so many of us are doing right now. On behalf of the Belltown Fire Department in Stamford CT I give my greatest sympathy to the families (both by blood and by flame) of the three brothers who have lost thier lives. They have demonstrated the greatest love one can have for thier fellow man, but paid the dearest price. They will not be forgotten, they shall remain in our thoughts forever.

Though a kind word can never truely ease all the pain of the loss you are feeling, keep in mind that you are held high in the thoughts and prayers of many. Our heartfelt condolences go out to our brothers and sisters of the FDNY and their families in their time of sorrow.

This poem was written by one of your brothers in the I.A.F.F.
The Last Bell-from one firefighter to another
Rest my brother – go back to sleep,
the bells you here are not for you.
So stay in bed and let us go,
you’ve served your time, you’ve earned your keep.
Rest my brother – you needn’t wake,
the engine rolls without you now.
Though in our hearts you’ll always be,
your love for life, no blaze can take.
Rest my brother – don’t you fret,
your children are looked after well.
We will protect and raise them strong,
but their loving father, they will not forget.
Rest my brother – you musn’t weep,
your family is our family now.
We’ll take them in as you would ours,
but in their hearts your memories keep.
Rest my brother – you shouldn’t tire,
the sirens here no longer wail.
But we see you there across the seat,
each time we roll to another fire.
Rest my brother – go back to sleep,
all is well, all is well.
You’ve done your time, earned your keep,
no more tappings of the bell.
