It is with deep regret that the Marlborough Fire Department and Marlborough Firefighters IAFF Local 1714 announce the passing of Lieutenant Paul "Smokey" Soumoulis. Smokey passed away after a valiant battle against cancer on 25 December 2001.
Smokey was a charter member of Local 1714 and retired in 2000. He served most of his career on Group 1 at Station 2, also known as "the Hill". he sereved as the engineer of the pumper stationed at the hill, and was assigned there as a Lieutenant in 1985. He finished his career as a Lieutenant on Engine 3 at Station 3.
Smokey's wit, wisdom and great sense of humor will be sorely missed by all.

Lieutenant Paul "Smokey" Soumoulis"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."
Lt. Ray McCormack, FDNY
