Ok here is a question. What are the terms of your current retirement system. We have to put 30 years in, and be 65 to collect 80%. I love my job, but at 65 I'll have 40 in and thats too much.

Remember, when the Chief says "gimme a second" he might just be collecting his thoughts!

In the New Jersey Police & Fire Retirement System, you collect 65% of your last year's salary after 25 years of service, regardless of age. You can collect another 1% for each year after 25 years up to 70%. Retirement is mandatory at age 65.

Several years ago, unfortunately, all titles except police officer and firefighter were removed from the pension system. Only police officers and firefighters can belong to the system. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to get into the system when I did back in 1973. I am now thoroughly enjoying my recent retirement.

    Stay safe, all,
    Chief Hank
