I RECENTLY INVESTIGATED A HOUSE FIRE WHERE THE ATTIC AND WALLS WERE INSULATED WITH CHIPPED TREE BARK. IF ANYONE HAS ENCOUNTERED THIS OR ANY OTHER UNUSUAL INSULATIONS I'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU. THANKS

Just saw your question and thought I'd send you a quick message. The insulation you spoke of is not too far fetched. I've seen a few older (real old) houses with saw dust used for the insulation. It was cheap and pretty easy to obtain. I've also seen news paper used (more so to fill cracks) but it had the same effect, blocking the wind\cold.
(I saw one wall which was filled with a certain female product, I don't think it was intended for insulation but I bet it blocked the wind).
I don't do very many investigations anymore but don't be suprised when you are looking at the older houses what you may find hidden behind the walls.
See Ya, jack
