Welcome Hylo! I'm a volunteer ff and an EMTB in Canton, ME, USA. What's your weather like over there on The Emerald Isle, this time of year. We just got another foot of snow. Hopefully Spring will push in and melt it quickly. Then it will be mud and flood season for a few weeks. We are a town of about 1000 and have 30 volunteers-FF's, EMT's, 1st Responders. We do alot of rescue calls, car accidents, chimney fires and an occasional structure fire.We do monthly training in both fire and rescue and our business in one meeting monthly. We have a good team of men and women. Hope to hear more about your work over there. Happy St. Patricks day! Moe D.

We have 25 Firefighters and 15 EMT's. We take care of a population of about 3000. We train twice a month to try and stay on top of things. It would be interesting to trade ideas with someone from your neck of the woods.

    Hi Paul
    Great to hear from Canada.
In my district of Dublin we respond to a very high number of car fires, as car theft is a problem in some of our areas. We also have a high number of RTAs(MVAs)as we have most of the major roadways comming into Dublin. On that note, if you have any new or unusual techniques for Mvas, I would be very interested in Hearing from you.
We also turnout to double the amount of ambulance calls to fire calls and, as you know anything can present it self when your on the ambulance. Will be in touch, keep safe. Mark.

    Hi Robert,
I missed your point, any way in Ireland, the retained firefighters are only trained as first responders at present as are the full time brigades outside the capital. The full time fire fighters in Dublin are only trained upto EMT-B, even though they run the full time emergency ambulance service.
The ambulance review board just passed the order for training to proceed to EMT-A, but EMT-A is along way off.The medical staff in hosptals do not approve at present but we will continue to do our best.I hope that clarifed any discrepency.
Keep safe and talk to you soon.
    Hylo.

    Hylo:

I was in Dublin last July. I visited the downtown station near Trinity College. They were in the midst of construction.

I'm in Pennsylvania, USA, near the city of Johnstown (noted for it's major floods). You planning on coming to USA anytime? Contact me privately, please.

    Hi Hylo,
I am a volunteer in Durham, North Carolina, with the rank of Captain. Had the pleasure of visiting your fair city and the station near Trinity College. Collected a lot of stuff from different departments in the north and south of Ireland. Enjoyed the FF's I met and swapping war stories with all of them.
    Play safe over there.
