I'm a California boy now living in typhoon country (Japan) and have no idea what to do for typhoons. Our department does not have a procedure for handling typhoons. During an earthquake we would simply ride it out, then begin a rapid damage (Window) survey as desribed in ATC-20-2. Resources would be committed only after the surveys were finished. Would we do the same for a typhoon? An earthquake is over in seconds while people may need our help during the typhoon? Should our crews be out during the typhoon?
Any advice you can provide would be VERY helpful as we are in Typhoon Condition 2 and expecting TC-1 tomorrow.
Thanks and stay safe
