Can any one give me any thoughts on converting from use of a rescue truck and a pumper to combining both operations in a rescue pumper type of vehicle.

I think the single largest issue is how many seats do you have and how many will you end up with.
We have a large pumper that can deliver 5 firefighters, a mini pumper that seats two and a rescue truck that can seat 6 people.

We have the same thing, except that our rescue does have a small pump on it. I was originally built for mutual aid, but everyone else has there own version of rescue trucks.
