    Default Hi & g'day from Australia :)

    Hi all,

My name's Michelle, aka Mish - I'm a proud volunteer firey in the Wonthaggi Urban Fire Brigade, located in sunny (!) Victoria, Australia. I've been a member since January 2001, and am in the Senior ranks (over 6 month's membership) as well as the Brigade's secretary (the look's I've received in this position, being 17 years old and more-than-slightly pierced [eyebrow and several ear piercings] are VERY amusing..). I've attended about 35 incidents so far, been on the branch for one, and have loved every minute of my membership!

Hope to talk to you all at some stage..

    Cheers,

    -Mish!

If your station is so much better, tell us how you fit a pumper, a tanker and a salvage into two bays

SAL'VAGE n. act of saving ship of other property from danger of loss; property so saved - vt.

well, if you think about it...our HAZMAT is *sorta* a salvage unit....we do specialise in Trench Rescue too...plus it has BA for our fireys, so it helps us save things in houses (property!)..

(then again, that would make EVERY vehicle Wonthaggi has a salvage unit..)

    Fez/Mish,

I was actually referring to Edithvale's Salvage, and the fact that they have a two bay station, with three trucks and a support crammed in there somehow.

Mish, how come you know the definition of 'Salvage' yet you don't scuba dive?

Well, tell us Americans that sharks don't bite! We have had several shark attacks as of late...not fun stuff. Although, we aren't stupid enough to take a boat out to a feeding frenzy of Great Whites munching on a dead whale...stupid (European) tourists!

You could sorta say that he's had experience in that region *L* I'd better not say anymore though, or he might start butt-kicking!

Hey, I'll admit it, I was at Chelsea for a short while, but I had no problems with you guys, I've been down to your station a couple of times and was made to feel welcome, and I thought you were a great bunch of firee's - I try to keep out of any politics that doesn't directly effect me as I find it much more useful to concentrate on doing the job right. I just remember what a tight fit it used to be trying to get everything into your engine bay - is Red still a member there?

G'Day all!! How's the weather down under? We're suffering a wee bit of a heat wave here in Canada of all places! Sooo, how do we here at the Cross Roads Fire Dept cram extra equiptment into our bays? We don't. We have 5 spots, and 6 trucks, so our old tanker sits across the street in a farm yard. This will work, of course, until winter sets in (-30c can be stressful on a tanker!). You see the Mounties (aka: RCMP, aka: Royal Canadian Mounted Police) have rented and renovoted our farthest bay as a temporary community office until theirs is built. Then they move out, and in comes our truck (trucks? New truck coming...when?) So..Good Day EH! Stay safe down there.. brush fire season will be there before ya know it!! The weather's too good,
We're looking at coming summer thats going to be busy, it hasn't rained much, lots of dry grass. HQ says the that all of Queensland(the North part of Australia) is looking lots of fire in summer.

    Hi folks

Great to see CFA is finally being represented more strongly on the forum. Welcome to Firehouse.com

If you haven't had a chance visit my second thread on "Where's everyone from?" The first one crashed when it went over 400 replies! I need more Aussies on the list!

Hey Mish give a big hug to Graeme B for me.

Hi Alistair, i'm from beautiful Youngstown, Ohio. It is in the northeastern part of the state, about an hour from Cleveland. Nice city, about 90,000 people. The city's FD has 9 stations, 8 with trucks, the other one is the Arson Unit. The dept. runs 7(hopefully soon to be 8!) engines, 2 ladders, 1 rescue/squad and 2 battalion chiefs.

    Keep it real down-under folks...

sir-silly - do you think you might have enough fires to give us victorians a free trip up to the land of sunshine in big red fire trucks going code 1?

great to see you on here too, JJ...but....how am I supposed to hug Graeme? *winks*
