I was wanting to know which volunteer dept. has the fewest calls in a single year? As for our district at this moment we have 10 personal and 1 rescue. Also throw in the most a volunteer dept. has in a year. I'll be waiting to hear form all of you.

Thicksmoke, a voly dept. a few towns away from me (suburbs, 18 miles Northwest of NYC), averages around 20 runs a year. They have since upped that a dozen or so because of a new Mutual Aid agreement with a shorthanded neighboring dept. They were also a little busier than normal with a few brush fires this year, thanks to the current rain-free Fall season in the Northeast.
They cover a State Park which is quite active in the summer and approx. 100 homes in the district. The area they cover was originally comprised of ice houses that supplied much of New York City with ice in the late 1800's and early 1900's, farmed from the lake in the center of the State Park land.
Peace.

I'm a Voly in Rockland County (NY Post 44), and we have 27 or so departments in the area. Hillcrest, the department I'm from, is usually first or second for number of calls, running about 800-900 incidents a year, and around 200-250 non-incidents a year. I'll have to check on Spring Valley (the only department with more calls than us in the county) to see how many they make.
However, there are some departments that get next to no calls. And the only one's they DO get are mutual aide requests, none of their own stuff.9.11.01

I cannot remember the volly dept here in Utah, but if my memory serves me correct, the Dept had about 23 calls a year. I wondered how they keep up the interest with those low numbers. If I find the info I will repost it here. <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

In the little town of Clearwater, BC,(pop 4000) where I live for half of the year, We have four volunteer departments. We have the town vol. fire dept. (30-40 calls per year), rural area vol. fire dept (about a dozen calls), and A vehicle extrication team (separate from either fire dept.)which gets about 20 calls per year. We also have a paid on call EMS unit which is operated by the provincial government and averages 400 call per year. Some of the more gung-ho people are involved with more than one department. In Prince George (pop 80,000) I am part of the highway rescue unit, which does extrications in all areas outside the city. Our call volume has varied between 40-90 calls per year. Most of our members would be happier if we got more calls.

Forgot to say something. I know of a volunteer fire department nearby which has averaged about 2 or 3 calls per year. I don't think that is very good for morale.
