Hello, all,

It is with deep regret that I inform you of the death of Captain William M. Bethune, 52, of the Texas City, Texas Fire Department, which occurred on Tuesday, October 5th, 1999.

While responding to a medical call, a pumper collided with a car and then struck a concrete column supporting a highway overpass. Bethune was ejected through the windshield in the collision. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the rig was pinned in the wreckage and sustained critical injuries. A third firefighter was also injured, but he was treated and released.

In less than a month, Bethune was to have celebrated his 25th year with the department. He survived by family, including a daughter. May he rest in eternal peace and may the Good Lord watch over and protect the loved ones that he left behind.

Be safe & God bless,
Chief Hank
