Hello, all,

It is with deep regret that I inform you of the death of Forestry Firefighter Gregory Pacheco, 20, of "The Penasco Five" Indian Hand Crew, Carson National Forest, New Mexico, which occurred on Tuesday, October 5th, 1999.

He died as a result of massive head injuries sustained October 3rd, when he was struck by a boulder rolling downhill while operating at an 8,000-acre forest fire in the Cleveland National Forest in California. He was placed on life support and died without ever regaining consciousness. Another firefighter suffered shoulder injuries when struck by the same boulder.

The three-year veteran is survived by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

May he rest in eternal peace and may the Good Lord watch over and protect the loved ones that he left behind.

Be safe & God bless,
Chief Hank
