Angry Junior / Explorer Duties Part II

As a junior member of my department, I feel that the comments made in other posts concerning the "duties" and necessity for having juniors responding are wrong. Often times juniors are needed for hitting the hydrant on the 1st due! Working fires jrs are needed for changing SCBA bottles, setting up lighting, and setting up ladders. For those who think that juniors are not valuble enough for response should reconsider.

OFD95, I AGREE 100% WITH YOU. JUNIORS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE FIRE SERVICE.

I believe jrs/explorers are a vitial part of a department. I don't think a junior/explorer should bump a more experienced firefighter off a call(which won't happen much!). I don't think they should feel the need to ride every call too.
    Just my opinion.

Default Juniors And Explorers = Important Assests!!

I totally agree with OFD, and the mind set that Juniors and explorers are not important needs to STOP! We too are important assets to our fire departments and should not be treated like garbage, but nor should we be treated as kings, but as brothers who are helping people in need!

100% agreement. Jr's are a very important asset to depts, however, i'm a firm believer that Jr's should give the truck seats to sr. ff's. I'm a Jr. in a dept where Jr's can't ride trucks, but put that aside. Jr's are just that: Junior Firefighters. We are valuable for responding, no doubt about it, but there are calls where Jr's shouldn't go.

Just my opinion, make your own decisions

Juniors are not necessary to any self sufficient department. I don't have any problem with them, but when you have to start relying on juniors to do the job, you have a staffing problem. Is that put simple enough for you?
