I have been given the exciting opportunity to develop a PIO position for my fire department. Any information such as existing job description, requirements, SOP/SOG, programs or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

I've been PIO for my department and other organizations for about 10 years and train other PIOs.

IFSTA offers a great book on the role of the PIO. The book includes a disk with common PIO forms and worksheets in Microsoft Word format.

Action Training Systems produced a 20 min. video that parallels a lot of what the book offers. Their number is 800/755-1440.
