Good Day
We all have heard that organic oils (like linseed oil) can spontaneously combust when oil soaked rags are bundled or thrown away. Does anyone have access to original research papers or experiments that explore the boundary conditions of this reaction. (eg rag quantity, oil quantity, ambient temperature etc)
Thank you Martin

As a matter of fact the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal in Ontario Canada did quite a detailed experiment as far as Linseed and other oils were concerned. I do have the details of this research as part of my CFEI course however they are at my office. I will try and post them tomorrow if that is okay with you.

Martin,
I sent you an email, I will need to mail out the information as there are too many pages to fax!! It is a study that was done on "The Role of Self Heating as a cause of Laundry Fires" through the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto, Ont. Get back to me as soon as you can, it is all packaged and ready to go, just need an address.IACOJ
