Default Operating valves under hydrant pressure.

Question:While operating from a hydrant with 90lbs. incoming pressure,I tried to open a valve for the deck gun on our pumper at a recent training.I could'nt budge the valve.I know that I would meet some resistance, but to the point where I had to shut the incoming water down and switch to tank water to open a valve?.Any help from experienced pump operators would be helpful. Thanks.

    Simply close the intake valve

You shouldnt have that problem. The valves need to be serviced if that is the case.

Eye is right, 90 lbs. is kinda light to have that problem. Also sometimes, opening a couple of drains may take off just enough pressure to get it open.
