Post How do you like your F-550 Minipumper

My Department is currently putting a spec together for a F-550 Minipumper. 500 gpm Hale pump and Class A foam system. I am looking for photos (.jpg files) of your F-550 in service to get ideas about compartment useage and tactics.

And the likes and dislikes of the overall truck and manufacture that you went with.

I would appreciate any input. Please email with your comments.

    Thanks

    Cool

    Ken,

I can't give you an opinion on these trucks because we don't have one (yet - maybe someday).

However there is a local builder who's "bread and butter" work is building exactly the type of truck you're looking for.

The company is M & W Fire Apparatus Inc.. Check out the New Deliveries Page to see who's gotten rig's like yours - then you can call M&W to get contact information for that Dept.

Or for Virginia Departments, you may be able to go to the Virginia Local Governmet web site and find contact information there.

Best of luck with the new truck.

    Steve,

Thanks for the response about the F-550 link, I was able to get a couple of design ideas from the pictures.

My department took delivery of a 2002 Ford F-550 mini pumper built by KME in December. We are really happy with it.

We are also in the process of buying a new Mini Pumper on the F-550 chassis. Does anyone have or has anyone looked at one that is a 4 door chassis and has 2 rear pack seats and also a pack seat for the front passenger? We are hoping to put ours out to bid very soon, but we aren't sure how much leg room there will be on the passenger side with the pack seats in front and back.

Also, if anyone has pictures or has one like this, and is within a couple hours of Toledo, OH, please let me know and maybe we could come check it out.

    Thanks

    Default F-550 Mini Pumper

We put a Pierce Mini Pumper on a Ford
F-550 a few months ago. We are very
    pleased with it. It's versitility
has been an advantage. It has enough
water and foam capability to take care
of most room and contents fires if needed
plus has proven nimble enough to perform
well in field and mountain fires. Be
careful not to exceed your axle weights.
Some manufacturers will let you do it.
Pierce is very strict in conforming to
NFPA Standards. Our unit has a diesel
    engine with manual transmission, a
Waterous 500 GPM. PTO pump, 350 gal.
Polytank with 20 gal.foam. The foam
systems is a Foam Pro. It has 2 cross-
lays and a booster reel. I think the
F-550 will work well if you don't overload
    it. I hope this helps,
