Our fire department is in charge of sounding the severe weather alert sirens. We do not have set protocols yet as to exactly when to sound them. I was wondering if anyone has any protocols for sounding severe weather sirens?

Ours are set off by the county Emergency Management Agency and are only sounded for tornado warnings.
It seems to me it would get confusing to the public to set them off for anything else (like severe thunderstorm warnings). If they hear the sirens, they know it's a tornado and they need to take action now. Of course, that action for alot of people is to go outside and look for the tornado, but we can't do anything about that
