Can somebody give me a little insight on the first generation of TIs? I believe they were called NIFTIs in the Navy.

The NIFTIs use a pyro electric vidicon tube that was built by EEV. From what I know they are very fragile and spend most of there time being repaired. I hope this is what you were looking for.

The first generation imagers were made by Hughes not EEV.
They were in service in 1979 in the US.
The EEV NIFTI was the second generation in 1988l, later sold as the Fire Research Camera.
The next minor upgrade of the EEV was the MSA Argus
The current Scott, Fire Research, Cairnes, Bullard, Argus 2, IC, ISI, and ISG units are generation 3.
Fourth generations units are the ICC, Flir, Cairnes hand held,

From what I know they are very fragile and spend most of there time being repaired.
We've had 11 years of good service out of our NIFTI's and they out number all the other imagers ever sold combined.
