Dublin fire brigade is the largest full time brigade in the country, and the only one which also supplies an emergency ambulance service. The mainstation is Tara street, which is being rebuilt to make it one of the most modern stations in Europe. It has provision for two pump appliances, two turntable ladders, two ambulances and numerous pod units.
The city is protected by five two pump stations, these stations also include an ambulance in each and a rescue truck, foam unit or an ariel unit.
A ring of one pump stations serve the outskirts of the city, another five stations, and it is these ones which are the busyiest, because the outskirts of the city are the most built up.
There is also four retained stations for county Dublin.
The full time stations are manned 24 hours a day and all work is on a rota basis, ie pump one day, ambulance next, etc etc. We work a four shift system, four different watchs, with 9 hour days and 15 hour nights.
The brigade has a total of approx 850 men full time and a number of retained men.
We have a fleet of about 90 vehicles, with 40 being front line appliances.
We answer approx 150,000 calls per year between ambulance calls and fire/rescue calls.
Hope you enjoyed and please contact me if you would like to know more.
Stay safe my friends.
