The Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department began serving the citizens of Mantua, Ohio located in Portage County in 1901. Currently, MSFD operates out of a single fire station with 7 full time personnel and 25 part time personnel. MSFD offers Fire, EMS, and Prevention services to its residents. In addition, to a large amount of tradition and history, the fire station is the oldest operating fire station in the state of Ohio with the main building dating to 1856. MSFD has occupied this building since 1923.

MSFD utilizes 2 ACLS Medic Units, 1 Structural Engine, 1 Rescue Engine, 1 Tanker, 1 Utility Vehicle, and 1 Staff Vehicle. The Mantua-Shalersville Fire District is composed of Mantua Village, Mantua Township, and Shalersville Township. The total coverage area is 54 Square miles.

MSFD responds to an average of 1200 - 1300 incidents per year. In addition, with 24 Hour Full Time Fire and EMS Protection, MSFD assists all neighboring departments as requested.

MSFD operates an active Dive Rescue Team and an active Fire Investigation Unit. Both of these special teams of firefighters respond to a large amount of mutual aid responses.
