The City of Lexington is located in the industrial piedmont section of North Carolina and is the county seat of Davidson County. The city has a population of 23,500 and a diversified economic base ranging from furniture manufacturing to NASCAR racing teams.

The Lexington Fire Department is a fully staffed and paid department consisting of 48 personnel. With an on duty staff of 15, we operate 3 engine companies, 1 ladder company and commander out of three fire stations located throughout the city. Additionally we rely on recall of off-duty staff and mutual aid agreements with surronding community departments to augment our on duty staffing. Last year the department responded to 1400 fire incidents.

We provide a wide range of services. The LFD is the confined space rescue provider for the greater Lexington area, all staff members are NCERT certified and are credentialed for all phases of rescue work. We oversee the enforcement of the NC Bldg. Code (Vol.5 Fire) within the city limits. Most staff members are fire code enforcement officers.

The LFD is committed to excellence. The department has an ISO Class 3 rating and is pursuing international accredidation. Currently we are self evaluating our service levels.
