In 1984-85, the then Live Oak and Soquel Fire
Protection Districts elected to consolidate the two fire districts into one. A few years later, in 1987-88, the Capitola Fire Protection District consolidated as well
and the Central Fire Protection District of Santa Cruz County was established.
The Fire District currently serves and protects the communities of Capitola, Live Oak and Soquel and encompasses approximately 29 square miles and a full time population of approximately 48,000. Fire stations are located near the village of Capitola, the town of Soquel, at 930 17th Avenue in Live Oak, and on Thurber Lane near Santa Cruz Gardens. The administration offices are located at 930 17th Ave in Santa Cruz. Each fire station is staffed 24 hours a day by 3 career firefighters with the exception of the 17th Avenue /Station which is staffed by 4, including at least 1 Firefighter/Paramedic at each station. The career staff is augmented by a paid-call force (formerly known as volunteers) of approximately 32 on an "on-call" basis.
The district is covered by 4 full time Medic Engines (E3411-E3414), 3 reserve Engines(E3415,E3417,and E3418)1 Wildland 4x4 (E3436)1 truck (T3470), 1 Med. duty rescue(R3460), 1 water tender(WT3450), and 1 BC(B3403).
