    our work schedule is goofy
    7 12hr shifts in 14 day pay period
    on call time during rotation (OT)
    wages
    not too bad for cost of living
    roughly 25,000 - 33,000 w/ OT (starting)
    benefits
    health after 30 days
    $300 deductible 90% coverage
    $20 copays prescription plan
    cost to employee = 50 cents per paycheck
    optional dental
    comp,vacation, sick time starts at day one
    averages out to be 1 week of sick and vacation time after 6 months

    Here is our base salary structure, benefits and hours for members of the Local. This is based on the last contract. We have ratified a new contract and are waiting for the City Council to approve the funding.

    Officers
    Deputy Chief: $58,968
    Captain: $52,180
    Lieutenant: $47,394

    Firefighters:
    There are 4 steps in the firefighter ranks. step 1 is the 1st six months, step 2 is the 2nd six months, 3rd is the next 12 months then step 4 is Firefighter maximum.

    Firefighter 1st step: $33,464
    Firefighter 2nd step: $34,136
    Firefighter 3rd step: $38,028
    Firefighter max: $41,454

    Incentives
    First responder: 2% of base salary
    EMT: 5% of base salary

    Educational incentives are based on the number of college credits from an accredited institution for a degree in Fire Science or other courses approved by the Chief.

    up to 9 credits: $10 per credit paid as a yearly premium only
    10 credits: 1.5% of base salary
    25 credits: 3% of base salary
    40 credits: 5% of base salary
    60 credits: 10% of base salary
    120 credits: 12% of base salary
    Base salary increases are paid on a lump sum basis or can be taken weekly.

    Master Firefighter: 5% of base pay (you must be on ten years to be eligible for this incentive)

    Night shift differential.

    $1000 a year hazmat technician stipend.

    Six personal days per year.

    15 sick days per year (earned at 1.25 days per month)

    Sick leave buyback (you can sell back 7 days if you have over 90 days accumulated, 10 is you have 110 or more days)

    Vacations:
    up to 5 years of service: 2 weeks.
    5 to 10 years: 3 weeks.
    10 to 15 years: 4 weeks.
    15 to 25 years: 5 weeks.
    25 years or more: 6 weeks.

    11 paid holidays, time and a half if you are working the night before and day of the holiday.

    Clothing allowance:
    The City provides the complete PPE ensemble (bunker coats, pants, boots, gloves, hoods, helmets, etc). We get $625 a year for uniforms.

    The City pays 70% of health and dental insurance premiums.

    Our work schedule is 42 hours per week. we work 10's and 14's (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off). There are four groups.

    The new contract provides a 3% base salary increase per year for 3 years and a $50 per year increase in clothing allowance. it also provides for increased satffing levels.

    Palm Beach Gardens

    We work 24/48 with a 3 week Kelly day or 48hours a week, 96 a pay period.
    Free HMO or PPO plus dental for the employee family is $240 a month.

    Firefighter/EMT:$47k-$71k
    Firefighter/paramedic add $7500 +5% per shift for lead paramedic
    Driver:$54k-$74k +$5500 if paramedic
    Lt's and fire inspectors:$64k-90k +$5500 if paramedic for Lt and $3500 for inspectors
    Captain:$70k-$99K +$5500 of paramedic

    minimum and maximum to be raised 3% this Oct and 2% next Oct.

    Employees pay 6% into the pension

    Longevity-5% added to base after 10 years of service, 2.5% added at 15 years and 2.5% added at 20 years.
    If your going to cry about doing the job you signed up for do us all a favor and quit, there are plenty of dedicated people standing in line for the best job in the world.
