Gov.Tom Ridge signed a bill in Harrisburg today funding a grant program for volunteer fire departments state wide. If the money is spread evenly through out the state to all the volunteer departments each one will receive about $6,000. There are 2,400 volunteer depts. state wide, it is not known at this time how the grants will be distributed, the details still need to be worked out. The state hopes to have the grants out by July!

congratulations, wish we had some of that money here in husker country. hope that more of the money filters down to the small dept. that have the smaller budgets. another possibility would be to dreate a no interest loan program to help lower capital improvement costs on a long term/ permanent basis. hope it works well.
