    Question Question on state training

Are junior/exploer members (under 18) allowed to go through FF 1 courses or do you have to wait till your 18?

I'm under the impression you have to be 18 to be an interior FF. Some of our local academies are running a junior FF1 class where you take the first half of the class, through the midterm. Includes, all the 'book' knowledge plus some things like ropes and knots, etc. It comes right up to putting on your SCBA and fighting fire. When you turn 18, you can step right into the second half and pickup where you left off.
It basically puts you on the same page when on scene and some asks you for a tool, etc, you know what it is.
