How does everyone elses departments handle promotions? I am looking for Guidelines.... stuff like that.

Non-officer positions are promoted from probie upward using achievement of classroom certifications combined with practical demonstrations on various apparatus. Line officers have to attain certain non line positions, length of service, and pass a written test. The operations division have interviews with candidates for Capts and Lt's.
Chief officers take report from operations division, and approval of Board of Directors. E-mail me and I can get you our position descriptions.

Our Cheif is hired by the board. One Asst. Cheif, one Cap., and one Lt. are on a senoirity bases. Our department has 19 firefighters total.
