SPRINGFIELD, IL: LODD - Steve Wilmot.
It is with great sorrow that Springfield FireFighters Local #37 announces the line of duty death of Captain Steve Wilmot. Captain Wilmot was a 15 year veteran of the Springfield Fire Dept and passed away Wednesday the 9th of August at St. Johns Hospital. Captain Wilmot died from injuries sustained from a fall while conducting an arson investigation following a structure fire on July 18th, 2000. Steve leaves behind a wife and 3 children.
Visitation for Captain Wilmot is scheduled for Sunday, August 13th from 4 - 7 pm at Bisch and Sons Funeral Home West on Koke Mill Road in Springfield, IL. Pass in review for Uniform FireFighters in attendance will begin at 5pm.
Funeral Services will be Monday the 14th at 11am at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Fire Department personnel that wish to march in the funeral procession through the downtown should meet between 4th and 5th street on Capitol Ave by 10am. Burial is at Camp Butler Cemetery.
A reception for Firefighters and their families will be held directly after the burial at the Teamsters Hall at 916 N. Dirksen Parkway in Springfield.
