Timing is Everything

The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother
spoke to him about the problem. "They have no more wine," she told
him. "How does that concern you and me?" Jesus asked. "My time has
not yet come."
-- John 2:3-4 (NLT)

For us, timing is everything. Deliver the punch line of a joke
without enough pause, or too much pause, and the joke falls flat.
Rush a proposal in marriage, and you may not be taken seriously.
Apply for a job at the wrong time and you won't be hired. Jesus
lived "on the clock." He lived by God's sense of timing, so he
ordered his plans based on God's will and God's timing. He came to
the world at just the right time. He went to the Cross at just the
right time. He was raised from the dead at the time he had promised.
While we may not ever know exactly what time it is in our world, we
can base our lives on the will, work, and timing of God. To do
otherwise would be to miss the redemptive moment in the lives of many
people God wants us to influence.

Father, I know I will never have the same sense of timing in my
life that Jesus did for his, but please make me more alert to your
timing in my life as I commit to make my heart more open to your
will. In Jesus' name. Amen.

You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who
call on you.
-- Psalm 86:5

Forgiveness is such a sweet blessing. But God does more than
forgive! He cleanses and forgets. His love is not metered out or
carefully rationed. He pours love upon us if we genuinely seek him
as our God and Father. So let's cry out and ask for God's
forgiveness and praise the mighty and holy name of The Almighty,
confidently knowing that our Father longs to bless us with
goodness, mercy, and love.

O Precious Father, I call to you wanting you to know how
important your love and forgiveness are in my life. Thank you for
sending Jesus to show your love and pay the debt of my sin. Help
me to live today as your child: may others see my joy and my
passion for you as I seek to live for your glory. In the name of
my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
