Rock Hill Collapse
2/4/02 at 1330 hrs, Building collapse reported to EOC dispatch, ENG 3, ENG 1, LAD 1, RES 2 on initail dispatch. While enroute EOC advised 6-7 trapped one possibly fatal. ENG 3 first due found app. 25-30 foot wall completely collapsed. High winds reaching 38 mph that day. Eng 3 crew found one victim fatally injured and 4 others in serious condition. One flown to local trauma center. Adjacent wall had to be stablized before victim could be removed. Victim removed app 2 hrs later due to having to shore wall. All Rock Hill units eventually responded for replacments( temps in the 40's). special call for volunteer resque squad for manpower, and equipment.
Great job by all involved, very difficult and delicate rescue.
