On May 4th at noon local time sirens will sound around the world as a mark of respect and in memory of our fallen brethren.
If you wish to register your department's involvement or read more about the Sound Off please visit the International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) website at http://www.futureweb.com.au/edmondson
The Firehouse News (Newsday, Inc. (New York, NY)) had this to say about the Sound Off:
"An international firefighter group is calling on fire departments around the world to set off the emergency sirens on their vehicles at noon, local time, on May 4 to honor fallen firefighters.
The organizers of International Firefighters Day said in a message on its Web site that a "global sound-off" would replace the traditional moment of silence to honor all firefighters who died in the line of duty last year, "particularly those on Sept. 11."
The Australian-based group said it envisioned a global event marked by rolling waves of siren noise as fire engines around the world took part in their time zone".
