At 00:43 hrs 02/18/02 the City of Hudson, NY Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the intersection of North 5th ST & State St. Upon arrival Chief of Department Patrick Colwell found 48 North 5th St well involved with heavy fire showing from the first and second floors. First due Engine 30 made an aggressive interior attack using one 2 inch and two 1 3/4 handlines and knocked down all visible fire within 10 minutes of arrival. Tower 32 arrived and immediately ventilated the roof and began work on opening the facades which were still smoldering. Extensive overhaul was needed to extingush all hidden pockets of fire. Also responding on the box were Engine 28, Engine 27, and Rescue 32. Special called were Greenport Rescue M-25 as the FAST Truck, and Chatham Ladder 58-5 as a standby ladder to cover calls in the city with Hudson Engine 64. Cause has not been determined at this time. The building is a two and a half story wood frame with balloon contruction.
