On Wednesday, February 27 at 2353 hrs., Berks County Communications dispatched companies 56 (Gouglersville), 59 (Lincoln Park) and 57 (Mohnton) to 1487 Old Lancaster Pike in the Colonial Hills section of Cumru Township for a possible bedroom fire. Engine 56 arrived first, reporting a working fire in the second floor, deployed an 1.75" attack line, with supply from Tanker 56, and were able to contain the fire to one bedroom and the adjacent bathroom. The report of a working fire automatically triggered dispatch of an ALS unit from Squad 680 (Southern Berks Regional EMS) and the RIT team from Company 67 (Shillington). Because horizontal ventillation was in place and effective, crews from Ladder 57 and Truck 57 engaged in extensive salvage operations to save numerous antiques and other valuables, while crews from Engine 59 & Squad 59 assisted with attack and overhaul. The fire was extinguished and all units in station by 0200 hrs. Cumru Twp. fire authorities are investigating the cause.
