Chicago is building a Fallen Fire Fighter/Paramedic Memorial Park along the lakefront; a tree will be planted for each Fallen Fire Fighter/Paramedic. The Park should be dedicated in early fall, 2002.
While the city of Chicago is funding the tree planting and landscaping, additional funds are needed for a monument to identify the memorial park's purpose: To honor our Fallen Loved Ones. The Chicago Fire Department Gold Badge Society is sponsoring a fund raiser in Chicago on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sears Tower, 99th floor; contact Eileen Coglianese, 708-444-3005/708-692-7767 for info.
The CFD is the greatest, of course, but did you know that it is unique in that the city boasts a Fallen Fire Fighter/Paramedic family support organization--the Gold Badge Society--which helps duty death survivors from the initital notification that a loved one is down: we go to the hospital or to the family home to help in any way we can and stay with the family for the following difficult years. Please contact us if you would like more information about our group; we are very proud of what we do.
