    Angry Scam Artist arrested

    YAPHANK, N.Y. (AP) -

    Suffolk County police arrested a man
    on suspicion of fraudulently soliciting donations for
    children of a firefighter killed at the World Trade Center and
    using the money to buy crack cocaine.
    Charles Israelian, 45, of Lake Grove faces charges of scheme to
    defraud and criminal possession of a controlled substance, said
    Officer John Yeary, a police spokesman. The suspect could face up
    to three years in jail.
    Israelian posed as a Smithtown firefighter and told residents he
    was collecting money for the four children of a firefighter killed
    in the World Trade Center attack, police said.
    The firefighter did not exist, Yeary said.
    It was unclear how much money Israelian collected, but police
    said he admitted to defrauding between 150 and 200 people.
    Israelian told residents if they gave a donation of at least
    $10, their names would appear in a local newspaper, police said.
    The newspaper posted a warning on its Web site warning readers that
    a man was falsely soliciting donations at local supermarkets and
