Lightbulb Help Name the New Puppy

Yesterday my boyfriend showed up with a new Black Lab puppy. She's nine weeks old and needs a name. He's a firefighter and duck hunter, and plans to use her for retrieving ducks. Five of us sat there for hours last night trying to come up with something different, maybe related to fire service or hunting. Anybody have something unique to suggest? He's expecting a list of names when I get home tonight.

This should be fun! I dug out my old list that friends did for my dog:

    Cairns
    Pierce
    Tiller
    Lafrance
    Safety
    Trauma
    Ashes
    Matches
    Pompier (as in the ladder)
    Booster
    Chief (well used)
    Brushy

    Hope this helps!

Here are a few of the suggestions I already made: Blaze, Arson, Ashley, Haley (haligan), Gunnie, Bushnell, Ruger, B.B., Ammo...

It's hard to come up with a good female name that doesn't sound more like a poodle. We'll probably end up with a neutral name. Keep the ideas coming.

Name the dog J.D. (just dog), which goes along with J.C. (just cat) for the cat.

DEFINITELY NOT AMY! That's his ex-wife's name And who would name a dog Lettuce Where did that come from???

I kinda like Arson so far, even though it sounds more male.

Anybody know any Polish? My b/f is half Polish. Maybe we could translate something simple like "black" or "fire" and come up with a cool name.

EastKY - You haven't lost your touch! You've got my whole office giggling

I miss your "re-writes". I was just telling the girls about "Woody's Night Before Christmas". What a classic! I would love it if you wrote something short about Scott and his dog.

Wed morning he woke up with a wild hare up his ars and decided to check the classifieds for a dog. He called 8 breeders before finding a top blood line. He jumped in the car with his dad's girlfriend and drove 50 miles to some farm. They picked out a fat-bellied female that tangled with a muskrat in the pond two days earlier. She lost a notch out of her lip, but seems none the worse for wear.

Then he drove up by my place late last night and asked if I could get dog food (at 9:00 pm??). IAMS Puppy Chow no less. "Gee, honey, I can get that at the corner gas station" Right! He has no kennel, no collar, no leash, no doggie dishes, etc. Does this sound spur-of-the-moment? Then we all sat at his brother's cottage and had a few while we tried to come up with names. You do NOT get more creative under the influence , you just get more obnoxious and think you're witty.

Then he says, "You'll help me with her won't you, I don't have a clue what to do" (really???) Now he informs me that he's putting a kennel in my back yard so I can keep her, maybe for 1-2 weeks at a time, when he's doing a bunch of 48s at the station. (I live 65 miles away from him.) His dad is also going to take her when he's just doing a 24. This poor dog is going to be confused! Is there any hope that she'll turn out to be a decent retriever?

    HELP!!!!!

    Default Drops of Labrador

OK, I have missed writing them too. Everybody know Train's "Drops of Jupiter"? All righty then.

    "Drops of Labrador"

Now the fireman's been down to the pound
Spur of the moment, he got a hound
    Yeah yeah yeah

She looks like midnight, which is when she howls
    Irritates all the fireman's pals
    Yeah yeah yeah

Since her return from her stay in the cage
She's taking out all her puppyhood rage
    Yeah yeah yeah
    Yeah yeah yeah

Tell me, did they give you all your shots?
Did you finally get a rawhide toy to cut your teeth with
Littermates to eat and sleep with?

Tell me, were you thrown from a moving car?
By an owner who lived very far away and thought you were
Gonna get too big for him

Now that she's back from that pound vacation
    She needs a nominal dedication
    Yeah yeah yeah

She barks her head off and can't chase game
Not like other labs, she just ain't the same
    Yeah yeah yeah

Now that she likes to drink cold beer
They're afraid that she can't feel no fear
Might go run to the fireman's truck when his pager goes off
And he's in a big rush

Tell me, do you have some gear to wear?
Can you save the doggie's hair with Nomex clothes or bunkers
To protect her little doggie hunkers

Tell me, do fires blow her mind?
When I shoot a duck will she find it floatin' in the water?
And swim out to get the bodder (body)?

Tell me, does she know how to fetch a stick
Can this dog really do a trick or is she just a buddy
To keep you warm at night?

Can you imagine no I-AMS puppy food
    Searching through the neighborhood
Even though the stores are closed?

Can you imagine no Alpo, Pup Chow, supper?
A bite to eat for a pupper?
The best meat byproducts that you ever had, and me?

Tell me, did the leash sweep you off your feet?
Did she finally get the chance to whiz upon a fire hydrant
And no longer feel like a migrant?

Tell me, was she thrown from a moving car?
By an owner who lived very far away and did not want her
Cause he saw she was not a hunter?

Bow wow, bow wow bow wow
Bow wow, bow wow bow wow wow wow

Bow wow, bow wow bow wow
Bow wow, bow wow bow wow wow wow

    etc.

    Thank you very much.

What better name for a Pup than Station7Cadet.

    ....sorry, had to say it.
