Just wondering what a good goal should be for the stair master. What do you think FF's should be able to do?
I just gained access to one and was wondering what I should be aiming for. I'm 155 lbs @ 6'1"
thanks

What kind of stairmaster is it, will it allow you check your heart rate while using it? Are you trying to increase your cardio, leg strength or both? Regardless of what you are trying to accomplish take full steps, moving your feet only a few inches doesn't really accomplish much, it'll make you sweat, but it isn't efficient use of you time on the machine.
Feel free to email or pm me. I'll let you know how to find your target heart rate etc, if you don't already know how to do it.
I use one at the gym. It has all the hr, steps, etc. I just get on and take long steps to simulate actually going up stairs. I go for about 15 floors, (it tells you about how many "floors" you've done)
rest and repeat. NICE BURN.:D
... as with any aerobic exercise you should regularly check your pulse and stay in your target range. A good goal would be 15 - 30 min at 80% of your max heart beat. To find your max heart beat, run (or other strenuous exercise) as fast as you possibly can for about a minute or two and immediately check your pulse. Hope this helps,
Regards,
Mike :)
There is a much easier way to find your target heart rate.
(220 - age) x 55% low end
(220 - age) x 85% high end
These are the formulas that any fitness trainer will use.
